Gerald "Fuzzy" Karlen has been in the electronics business since 1989, with his store having been at three locations in Monroe.

Before selling television, cell phones and other electronics to customers, Fuzzy was a mechanic and was in the bar business, setting up sound systems for bands.

"Many people asked me if I would hook up their televisions and VCRs," Karlen said. "I did it, and I was good enough that they said I should do it for a living, so I decided to give it a shot."

Karlen is a self-taught electronics expert.

He donates his time and equipment to a number of charitable groups and events in Monroe.

"I try to help out the community as much as I can," Karlen said. "I think it's the right thing to do. It's part of being part of a community."
