People You Should Know - Alan Weckerly
Placeholder Image
Alan Weckerly has operated equipment for the Monroe Street Department for 25 years. He has spent his years driving street sweepers and snow plows, and doing whatever else needs to be done, he said. Recently he's been picking up the piles of snow that have accumulated.

All that is about to change. Weckerly will retire Jan. 4.

Weckerly said he likes to drive. Before coming to work for Monroe, he was an over-the-road truck driver for 20 years, logging more than 3 million miles in the U.S. and Canada. In his red IH tractor trailers, he hauled lumber, steel and farm equipment. His last truck was yellow and black.

Last September, Weckerly and his wife Diane flew to Australia and New Zealand for two weeks. Weckerly said "the trip of our lives" was in celebration of their 50th anniversary and his retirement.
