Pedley takes aim at another sheriff term

DARLINGTON - Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley announced Tuesday he will seek another term as sheriff.

Pedley said that while he's been able to accomplish a lot as sheriff, more remains to be done, according to a press release Tuesday.

Pedley said he wants to find ways to continue to upgrade and further improve public safety without significantly impacting the tax levy. The sheriff's department was $114,000 under budget in 2009 because the department was conscious of shrinking tax dollars in the county.

Pedley, who was appointed sheriff in February 1990, has helped the department receive grants for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, the 911 telephone system, cellular phone location tracking, video conferencing at the Lafayette County Courthouse, and highway safety. He's helped the county receive more than $2 million in grants to help generate revenue for the sheriff's department.

Pedley is the past president of the Badger State Sheriff's Association and is chairman of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board, which sets the minimal hiring and specialized training standards for the approximately 16,600 law enforcement officers in the state.

Pedley and his wife, Rhonda, reside on their family farm near Shullsburg. They have three children, Emily, 23; Sarah, 20; and David, 17.
