BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica school district passed a tax levy of $2.7 million for the 2013-2014 school year, an increase of about 7.1 percent over last year, at its annual meeting Oct. 28.
According to the school district, the new tax levy is $179,400 more than the $2.52 million levied last school year, and all of the increase goes into the general fund.
Of the total levied amount, the general fund will receive about $2.49 million, and debt service funding will receive $214,753, one dollar less than last year.
With equalized property values in the school district at $213.3 million, $2.8 million or 1.3 percent higher than the previous year, Pecatonica's new tax rate will be $12.66 per $1,000 of property value, a 5.7 percent increase from $11.98 last year.
The owner of a $100,000 home will see a school tax of $1,266, about $68 more than last year. The owner of a $200,000 house will pay a school tax of $2,532 or $136 more.
Projected expenditures for the general fund for 2013-14 total $5.49 million, up 1.3 percent or $102,000 compared to $5.39 million in actual expenditures last year.
From the general fund, the district expects to spend $2.63 million on instruction and curriculum, about $72,000, or 2.8 percent, more than last year. Support services funding for administration and for staff and student support will be $1.98 million, about $5,300 or 0.27 percent more. Transfers to food service and special education services will be about $589,000, about $26,000 less than last year, while open enrollment tuition will cost about $291,000, or $51,000 more.
Other funds' expenditures total $995,500 for special project, $216,200 for food service, and $214,800 for debt service.
Total expenditures for all school district funds equal $6.92 million.
General state aid is expected to be about $2.48 million, compared to $2.55 million for 2012-2013. Categorical state aid also is expected to be down, about $23,000, from $68,900 last school year to $46,000 this year.
