MONROE -The Monroe Parks and Recreation announced new programs for the spring and summer.
New online payment for recreation programs are available Monday, April 1. To sign up for classes, visit www.cityofmonroe.org and click "Park and Recreation Registration." Click on the shopping cart to get started. There will be a fee of $1.50 per transaction.
Credit card payment will be available online around June 1 and will have also have a convenience fee which is yet to be determined. Registration is also available at the Park and Recreation office, 1110 18th Ave.
Programs that will be starting soon include:
Spring youth volleyball League for third- through sixth-grade boys and girls beginning Monday, April 8. Leagues will be third through fourth and fifth through sixth grades. New this year, practices will be held at each grade school, depending on where the student is enrolled, on Mondays from 3:30 through 5 p.m. and games will be played on Thursdays at 5:30, 6:15 or 7 p.m. against the other schools at Northside. The middle school gym is not available for this program so sixth-graders will be placed on a team at one of the other participating schools. Registration form available at www.cityofmonroe.org.
Ballroom dance lessons will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, April 8, 15, 22 and 29 at the Monroe Behring Senior Center. Classes will taught by Gil and Judy Oberdas. Cost for the lessons is $48 per resident couple or $68 for non-resident couples. Class is limited to 12 couples.
Boys' Little League for grades fourth through seven and girl's softball for grades fifth through ninth can register until Friday, April 12. New this year for baseball is all boys in the same grade level will be together on one or two teams. The same is for the girls in softball. Players will stay together as a team with the same coaches each year. Spring training camp is Wednesday, April 24. Registration forms available online at www.cityofmonroe.org.
Kickball/dodgeball for grades first through fifth graders (divided by grades) will be held on from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesdays, April 30 through May 28 at the middle school field. Cost for the program is $13.
Adult One-Stop Body Shop consists of a warm-up, step aerobics, resist-a-ball and cool down, as well as an overall body shaping, toning and stretching. Exercises are simple and easy to follow with a low to moderate intensity level. Participants need to be 14 years and older. Classes are held from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, April 9 through June 25 at the Behring Senior Center with Tammy Anderson instructing. The cost is $20.
Adult Boot Camp Blast consists of heart pumping aerobics, boot camp calisthenics and toning and strengthening exercises. Exercises are moderate to high intensity level. Class participants must be 14 years and older. Classes are held at the Behring Senior Center from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Thursdays and from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Saturdays. Classes are from April 18 through July 18(12 weeks) with Marcey Sink instructing. The cost for the class is $20 for once a week or $35 two times a week.
