MONROE - The Monroe Park and Recreation Department has openings in its fall programs. To sign up, stop in the Parks and Rec office or register online at www.cityofmonroe.org.
The fall and winter Pickleball League has moved inside on Mondays and Wednesdays until April 13. Participants can drop in any time to play as teams will change every week. Games are in the Parkside School gym from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for the season. Brian Saugstad is the supervisor. Enter Parkside gym through the west door.
New this fall is Munchkin Mondays. The program is for 2 1/2- to 5-year-olds and will be at the Community Center from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. once per month. The program includes arts and crafts, games, stories, singing, free play and making new friends. Dates are Oct. 19, Spooky Squirts; Nov. 16, Thankful Tots; Dec. 14, Christmas Kids; Jan. 11, Cold Cubs; and Feb. 8, Be My Munchkin. Cost is $15 per Monday, or $60 all.
The next session of the Karate class will begin Dec. 1. Karate is held at the Behring Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays: 7- to 12-year-olds, 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. and 13-year-olds to adults, 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $45 for residents, $55 for nonresidents.
The Karate Fall Tournament is Nov. 14 at Monroe High School. Registration is at 9 a.m., the Black Belt Judges' Meeting is at 9:30 a.m. ,and the tournament starts at 10 a.m. Early registration deadline is Nov. 6. The fee is $30. Registration that day is $35. Spectators are free.
Monroe Middle School Dance Team registration is now through Oct. 23. The Monroe High School dance team will work with the children. The cost is $15 and includes a shirt. Practices will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays at the middle school. Practice dates are Oct. 26 and Nov. 2, 9 and 16. Performances will be at the boys middle school basketball games on Nov. 3, 10 and 17.
Indoor soccer at the Abraham Lincoln gym is for middle and high school students to work on skills and drills and play some games. Open gym is from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The gym will be available Nov. 3 to March 3. Cost is $20. Curt Zastrow is supervisor. Students must be registered to attend.
