Parks and Rec openings for summer programs

MONROE - Monroe Parks and Recreation has a few openings in upcoming programs. Some of the available programs include:

• Lego Olympics camp will be held Monday through Thursday, June 29 through July 2 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Community Center. The program is for boys and girls entering third through fifth grades in the fall. During the Lego Robo Battles classes, students design and program robots to compete in simulated Olympic events such as a sprinting in a race, throwing a basketball and shooting a puck into a hockey goal. Students use Lego Robotics and computers to learn principles of robotics, computer programing and team work. The cost for the program is $130 for residents or $145 for non-residents. There needs to be 12 participants to hold the class.

• Zumba Kids classes includes specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and music that kids love. The four-week program will be held on Wednesdays, June 10 through July 1 at the Community Center. The cost is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Times are 5:30 through 6:15 p.m. for ages 3 through 5 years old; 6:20 through 7:05 p.m. for 6 through 9 years old; and 7:10 through 7:55 p.m. for ages 10 years and older.

• Summer Dance classes will be on Thursdays, July 9 through Aug. 20 at the Community Center. Three classes will be held: 3- and 4-year-olds from 5:30 to 6 p.m., 5- through 7-year-olds from 6:05 to 6:35 p.m., and 7- through 12-year-olds from 6:40 to 7:10 p.m. The cost is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents.

• Parent's Night Out during the Concert on the Square is for children 5 through 12 years old. It is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 19. Kids can bring blankets, pillows and stuffed animals and will have a snack, games and activities before watching a movie. The cost is $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

• Disc Golf League will be held on Thursday nights from June 11 through Aug. 27 starting at 5:15 p.m. at Twining Park in the parking lot closest to the No. 1 hole. Register on-site each Thursday. The cost is $5 with a payout each week.

• Tiny Tot Tennis Lessons will be held on Mondays for two different sessions for 4- through 7-year-olds who come with a parent, sibling or babysitter from 4 through 4:45 p.m. at Recreation Park Tennis Courts. Session 1 is June 15 through July 6 and session 2 is July 13 through Aug. 3. The cost is $12 for residents and $22 for non-residents.

• July Adventure Club will offer during two different sessions for boys and girls ages 6 through 10. There will be experiments, crafts, special speakers and time at the pool. Session 1 is July 6 through 17 and session 2 is July 20 through 31. It will meet Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 1 through 4 p.m. at the Recreation North Shelter. The cost of one session is $35 for residents, $45 for non-residents or both sessions for $65 residents and $75 non-residents.

• Two tennis lessons sessions will both be held Monday through Thursday from July 6 through July 16 and July 20 through July 30 at Recreation Park tennis courts. Participants in first through third grade will meet from 8 through 8:55 a.m. and fourth- through seventh-graders will meet from 9 to 9:55 a.m. The cost is $25 for residents and $35 for non-residents. Program instructors are Brad Saugstad and Ellie Grossen.
