NEW GLARUS - Midwest Environmental Advocates is hosting an art exhibit and panel discussion on the role of women in Wisconsin's sustainable agriculture movement from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Cow and Quince restaurant, 407 2nd St., New Glarus.
The event is titled "Rural Women, Rural Communities: A Celebration of Art, Agriculture and Rural Women." Light hors d'oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available.
Panelists speaking about their experience in leading sustainable agricultural enterprises and community efforts to protect clean water and air include Lafayette County District 8 representative and Circle M Farm owner Kriss Marion, Jen Reimer of Reimer Family Farm in Brodhead and Rebecca Goodman of Northwood Farm in Wonewoc.
The event is free and open to the public.
Visual artist Kelly Parks Snider and video producer Jane Bartell began collaborating in 2000 with the mission to explore contemporary social issues through the arts. "Rural Women: Voice and Spirit" is the result of that collaboration. The collection of paintings and corresponding literary selections are a portrait of the various, and at times conflicting, cultures of farming production, land stewardship, and evolving farming family roles and relationships.
This is an art exhibit in which rural women can be seen, heard and understood as they tell their stories, share their lives, and provide insights about contemporary farming issues that affect everybody. Midwest Environmental Advocates, the Wisconsin Arts Board and the National Endowment for the Arts have been supporters of the exhibit.
Midwest Environmental Advocates is a public interest organization that uses the power of the law to support communities fighting for environmental accountability.
