Looking for Help
The Green County 4-H Knitting and Crocheting members are working on community projects. They are making hats for Ukrainian orphanages and hats for local chemo patients.
They are also looking for scrap yarn to make lap Afghans for local nursing homes.
For more information or to donate yarn, contact Kathy Olmstead at kittyknits@hotmail.com, Tami Woller at kentwoller@juno.com or Alissa Grenawalt at 328-9440.
MONROE - Crocheting: It's not just for seniors anymore.
"People always think of older ladies sitting in rocking chairs," Heidi Maaske laughed.
Maaske's daughter, Ashley, 10, and Abby Faith, 16, both from Monroe, worked on their 4-H projects Saturday to get ready for the Green County Fair.
Both girls have crocheted things before.
Faith has won many blue ribbons over the past six years, her mother, Chris, said.
On Saturday Abby worked on a blanket.
Ashley worked on a scarf. Like Abby, she's won ribbons at the fair.
The girls made crocheting look easy. After a while, they agreed, it becomes second nature. They can do it while they watch television or talk to people who have questions about what they like to crochet.
It's a fun hobby and they both take pride in what they're able to make.
It's also a hobby that is making a comeback, Kathy Olmstead said. Olmstead helped them out and also spent the morning crocheting.
"It used to be popular but then it wasn't," she said of the hobby. "It's becoming popular again."
