DARLINGTON - A man who was arrested in Warren on Sunday for a fourth offense of driving while intoxicated has also been identified as a suspect in a hit-and-run earlier that day.

Duane B. Barr, 66, Darlington, was cited for failing to notify the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department of an accident after he missed a turn on County W in Gratiot, went off the road and drove into a ditch before striking a sign, according to the department. He was also cited for failing to keep the vehicle under control, a hit-and-run adjacent to a highway, reckless driving which endangered safety and failing to wear a seatbelt.

Warren Police Department arrested Barr "shortly after" authorities received a call about an erratic driver in Gratiot around 9 p.m., Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill said.

Gill confirmed Barr is also a suspect in a hit-and-run that occurred on County G in Kendall Township.

Eli F. Kanagy, 18, Platteville, was operating an Amish buggy just before 8 p.m. Sunday when he was hit from behind, damaging the buggy before the driver of the vehicle which hit Kanagy drove away. Gill said Kanagy was not injured in the crash. Belmont Fire Department, Belmont Ambulance and Belmont Police assisted at the crash.

Barr was taken to the Jo Daviess County Jail and remains in custody. The Jo Daviess Sheriff's Department assisted Warren Police. Barr's vehicle sustained minor damage and was towed following his arrest.
