MONROE — Still awaiting trial on 2024 child sex offense-related felonies, a Brodhead teen faced a raft of new child sex offense charges, and additional felony bail jumping charges, in a status appearance in Green County Circuit Court on Monday.
Jayson Armando Montiel, 19, was arrested early on April 23, when a team of at least seven officers arrived at his front-door with a search warrant, according to a criminal complaint. In addition to finding evidence to build another child sex case, another resident of the location was arrested for allegedly having nearly two pounds of marijuana that she maintained belonged solely to her and was for personal use alone.
Computers, video games, cell phones, lap tops and other digital equipment were seized as part of the raid, along with drug paraphernalia, according to the criminal complaint
Montiel is charged with attempted possession of child pornography, exposing child to harmful material, causing child 13-18 to view sex activity, exposing genitals/intimate parts to a child, felony misappropriate ID, and 10 felony counts of bail jumping.
Cash bond was set for the defendant at $7,000 on May 8, and posted a short time later, according to court records. That bond was continued by Circuit Court Judge Faun M. Phillipson, following Monday’s hearing, in which the defendant’s attorney and assistant district attorney Laura Kohl agreed to schedule a competency hearing for Montiel prior to reconvening on pre-trial matters.
Montiel, out on bond, did not appear.
Meanwhile, in the 2024 case, he is charged with seven felony, sex-related offenses, including possession of child pornography by persons younger than 18, attempted possession of child pornography by persons under 18, exposing child to harmful material, and exposing child to harmful descriptions. His next court date in that case is set for an Oct. 2 status conference, also before Phillipson.
The defendant was accused of various lewd acts and solicitations — including allegedly sending pictures of his own penis and of him masturbating — many of them proffered over social media platforms, such as Snapchat.
“While reviewing the reports from the GRSO’s case, I found several similarities to the case currently being investigated,” wrote an investigator in the 2025 criminal complaint. “I found (Jayson) used Snapchat in that case as well and targeted female juveniles of the same age as in this case..I also found (the defendant) used more than one Snapchat account to communicate with the juveniles in GRSO’s case as he also did in this case...”
Another status hearing in the 2025 case, set for July 24, will likely focus on the defendant’s competency to stand trial on the charges.
In the related marijuana case, Tamryn L.L., Ring, 41, also of Brodhead was charged with a single count of possession of THC and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Please note (Tamryn) told officers prior to her arrival at the residence and told me prior to being taken into custody that all the marijuana belonged to her,” said the complaint.
She was released on a $1,500 personal bond, according to court records.
