Orangeville woman killed in crash

ORANGEVILLE — A woman is dead and a teenager was injured after a two-vehicle crash just across the border in Illinois on Wednesday. 

According to a press release from the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:20 p.m. on March 26, sheriff’s office personnel responded to the area of Illinois Route 26 and Old Illinois Route 26 in rural Orangeville for a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash with injuries.

Preliminary investigation results indicate that a black 2008 Ford Escape driven by Shania Cantrell, 26, of Orangeville, was attempting to turn southbound on Illinois Route 26 from Old Illinois Route 26 when it was struck by a red 2020 Ford F550 truck that was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 26. Cantrell was pronounced deceased at the scene, and a 15-year-old male passenger in her vehicle was transported to an area hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. 

The driver of the Ford F550, a 41-year-old Argyle man, was not injured.

The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and an autopsy is pending.

The Orangeville Fire Department, Leamon’s Ambulance Service, the Stephenson County Coroner’s Office, and the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit assisted at the scene.
