FREEPORT - An Orangeville firefighter was charged with arson after an investigation into a recent series of fires throughout the stateline area.
Kenneth L. Grabow, 20, Orangeville, was charged with four counts of arson and six counts of criminal damage to property.
Grabow was charged after an investigation into several fires throughout Stephenson County. Stephenson County Sheriff David Snyders said eight suspicious fires occurred within two weeks.
Six of the fires occurred in abandoned or empty buildings without any electricity, which aroused suspicion, Snyders said. The remaining two fires were grass fires.
The Orangeville Fire Department assisted with a barn fire on April 15 on County P, Town of Monroe. Although this barn was also empty and had no electricity, it is unclear whether its destruction was the result of arson.
A sheriff's office news release said that Grabow was identified as an early suspect in relation to the fires, according to the Freeport Journal-Standard.
