MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center will present Robert Post's one-man variety show "Post Comedy Theatre" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at MAC, 1315 11th St.
Post studied theater and dance at Ohio State University before hitting the road with a touring mime and improv troupe. He crafted his signature style during workshops with performer and teacher Tony Montanaro, who ran Celebration Barn Theater-Maine's Center for Immersive Physical Theater Training in South Paris, Maine. Post credits Montanaro for "flipping the switch," helping him see how he could combine his love of character work, movement arts and improvisation. His career has now spanned more than 40 years.
Post has taken his sketches and one-man variety show "Post Comedy Theatre" across the United States and Europe as well as to Canada, Mexico, Japan and Turkey. He has appeared on the "Today" show and was invited to perform for children at the school in Beslan, Russia, that was devastated by a terrorist attack in 2004. A PBS special on his work won an Emmy. His wide-ranging travels have led to "Post from the Road," a video series featuring his encounters with the weird and wonderful byways of American culture.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students 18 and younger. Reserved-seat tickets are $25. Tickets may be purchased at the box office at 1315 11th St., by phone at 325-5700 or online at monroeartscenter.com.
This concert is supported by season corporate underwriter Colony Brands Inc. and season media underwriter Big Radio. Additional support is provided by David and Julie Buchanan, Lee and Chris Knuteson, Wisconsin Bank & Trust, Bill and Beth Balasia, Art and Patt Carter, Jan and Jackie Erlandson, Lew and Kathy Scott and Gerald Woker.
