MONROE - "This is not a kid's show," Jean Woolworth, director of the "On the Air" Radio Variety Show, said.

The full cast and crew ran through their dress rehearsal Wednesday night, and even without microphones, the songs sounded ready. Woolworth plays in the band, too, with her husband Rich Woolworth as band director.

The show will be held at the Performing Arts Center at Monroe High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Jean Woolworth said tickets are still available and there should be room opening night. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students 18 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at the Monroe Arts Center box office, online at www.monroeartscenter.com or at the Friday or Saturday performances.

Lori Grinnell, associate director of MAC, said this will be the 17th year they have hosted the annual variety show. The performance will last about two hours and have an intermission.

Woolworth trotted around the stage at the Performing Arts Center and had the cast march to the beat for their mock finale.

"OK, so bow - now we gesture with our right, then to our left, then to the band ... and then you can bow again - everybody loves bowing," Woolworth said.

The performance will feature musicians and actors from southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Dan Blum of Big Radio will emcee the night. From bluegrass to big band tunes, the show will feature a live band including banjos, guitars, drums, trombones and clarinets.
