MONROE - Three Green County Sheriff Department deputies received recognition for actions that saved the life of a prisoner last month.
The three deputies were honored for their actions May 30 by Monroe Clinic Emergency Medical Services coordinator Mary Austin.
Sgt. Rob Werren, Brian Dillon and Betsy Krantz were on duty May 5 when they responded to the Huber Dorm to help an inmate Timothy J. Bennett, who had collapsed. The 43-year-old man didn't have a pulse when the deputies arrived at his cell.
Dillon and Krantz performed CPR while Werren got an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and other medical supplies. The AED pads were applied to Bennett and the analysis on the equipment indicated they were to shock Bennett. A shock was delivered and a second and third shock were also required.
The deputies continued to work on Bennett until the Green County EMS arrived at the Jail and took Bennett to the Monroe Clinic.
Bennett had a pulse by the time EMS personnel arrived.
Green County Sheriff Department Randy Roderick said their actions helped save Bennett's life.
"They were commended for their rapid response and appropriate action," Roderick said.
Because they responded quickly, Bennett was hospitalized for only a short time, he added.
