MONROE - Two Illinois men charged with robbing a Monroe man at gunpoint had pleas of not guilty entered on their behalf Wednesday.

Demarco Dwayne Owens, 18, and Elijah Lewayne Martin, 18, both of Winslow, appeared in Green County Circuit Court on Class C felony counts of armed robbery and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana.

The duo waived their right to a preliminary hearing and stood mute on their charges. Judge James Beer entered the pleas of not guilty on their behalf.

The two were charged last week after an incident Jan. 21 when they robbed a man at gunpoint in the 2000 block of 16th Avenue in Monroe.

Each signed a $10,000 signature bond Jan. 26, with a cash component of $2,500 and conditions to have no contact with the victim or a female accomplice in Monroe. Owens' step-grandmother, Charlissa Segner, co-signed the bond.

Segner initially wanted to remove her name from the bond Wednesday, but decided to "put her faith in" Owens and Martin. Should Owens and Martin fail to comply with their bonds, Segner will be required to pay the $2,500.

The two will next appear for a pre-trial conference March 28. Their maximum possible sentence is 25 years in prison.
