MONROE - The Monroe Police Department is nearing the end of its investigation into June vandalism at the Monroe High School library, the school board learned Monday.
While police initially thought they had good leads on the vandals, no charges have been filed. District Administrator Larry Brown said the case will not be closed, but at this point, the police have no further leads to follow up on.
Books were pushed off shelves into piles and furniture was overturned. Brown has been talking with Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley throughout the investigation.
In other action, the board:
Heard from Brown that the district's new Web site is close to going live. Once it does, the site will be able to host online surveys. Brown said he would like to put a poll on the site asking parents for their opinion on whether the district should have a spring break. Vacation dates are a contractual item with the teachers' union, and any survey would not be binding, he said. It could, however, help the board gauge public opinion.
Accepted the resignation of Carrie Kundert as department secretary/sub coordinator and hired her as building secretary at Monroe Middle School. The board also hired Laura Pautsch, Northside outdoor safety/playground supervisor; Jill Kline, aide at MMS; Laura Solawetz, library specialist at Monroe Public Library; Bruce Scott, Parkside custodian coordinator; Kathy Frey, MMS health assistant; and Kristen Beckman, exceptional behavioral needs assistant at Abraham Lincoln. The board also approved a leave of absence for Sandra Broge, weekend custodian, for family reasons.
