MONROE - There won't be a hike in student fees in the Monroe School District next year.
The Monroe School Board on Monday night unanimously approved keeping student fees the same as last year.
Board member Larry Eakins said that, since many in the community are having a difficult time in the current economy, the board didn't want to raise student fees for the 2011-12 school year.
Monroe School District Business Manager Ron Olson said the district still has to look at school lunch prices and federal guidelines will play a role in whether there are increases in those.
In other action, the board:
- Approved a food service contract with Reinhart, which submitted a bid of $200,710.75, which was a little more than $5,000 less than Sysco Foods.
Eric Ekum, Monroe's director of food service, in a recommendation to the board, said he supported Reinhart.
"They have the lowest bid total, the most aggressive drop size discount, lowest cost to ship commodities and the lowest fixed cost case," Ekum wrote.
Reinhart has done a great job for this year with minimal issues."
- The board awarded the 2011-12 milk contract to Swiss Valley/Prairie Farms. Swiss Valley/Prairie Farms was the only milk provider to make a bid.
- The board approved education scholarships. The scholarships recommended by the scholarship committee will be announced at the scholarship night on May 11.
