DODGEVILLE - A Monroe man died Thursday afternoon following a crash outside of Dodgeville.

David Koning, 74, was going north from County Y between Dodgeville and Ridgeway when a semi traveling on U.S. 18/151 hit his vehicle. The semi was driven by a person who lives in Houston, Missouri.

It was the second crash at the intersection that very day, according to according to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office. Lieutenant Mitch Schauff said the first crash happened around noon. The crash is being investigation by the sheriff's office and the county coroner's office.

Koning was the only person in his vehicle, and was found dead by emergency crews. Koning was a longtime auctioneer of Koning Auction Service and co-owner of Koning Maple Lane Event Center in Monroe.

Schauff said it was the sixth fatal crash in Iowa County this year. 

The first accident, which happened just a few hours prior, involved two vehicles and the extent of injuries is currently unknown.

Schauff said that over the last three years, there have been 34 crashes at the intersection in the past 36 months.
