MONROE - First-time parents Angela Canady and Eric Campbell of Warren, Ill., were all smiles as they held their baby Monday.

Molly Ellen Campbell wasn't just the first baby born to the couple - she is also the first baby born in Green County in 2011. Molly was born at 4:01 p.m. Saturday, at the Monroe Clinic hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces and was 19 and a half inches long.

Molly was due Dec. 23, Canady said.

"I guess she just wanted to wait until everyone was done celebrating Christmas," she said.

The couple thought they might have a Christmas baby, but instead found themselves at the Monroe Clinic hospital Friday night, preparing to have a New Year's baby.

"We were here for a long time," Angela said.

Canady and Campbell were excited to welcome their little girl. They knew the baby was going to be a girl and made sure everything at home was ready. The baby has plenty of pink blankets and clothes, Canady said.

The couple took turns holding Molly, who was wrapped in a pink blanket.

"We're so glad she's healthy," Canady said.

Campbell said it was "cool" to have the first baby born in 2011.

"Her birthday will be one-one-11." he said,

Canady's parents, William and Roberta Johnson, live in McHenry, Ill., while Campbell's parents, Jeff and Kim Stephens, live in Spearfish, S.D. There were plenty of aunts and cousins to visit Molly, Canady said.

They took the baby home Monday. Both parents were looking forward to getting home and spending some quiet time with Molly, they said.
