MONROE - Freshmen at Monroe High School are participating in a new mentoring program due to a $5,000 AT&T Wisconsin Innovation and Investment Award.

The AT&T donation is supporting the launch of the Link Crew Program for the first time at Monroe High School during the 2013-14 school year. The goal is to connect incoming freshmen with junior and senior mentors to help them get off to the right start and achieve success in their first year of high school.

Leaders from the Monroe School District, Monroe High School and the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin joined AT&T and State Rep. Howard Marklein, R-Spring Green, to announce the AT&T donation and the launch of the Link Crew Program on Friday, Oct. 18 at the high school.

Nearly 200 freshmen and about 40 junior and senior mentors are participating in the first year of the program at Monroe High School. Freshmen are partnered with a junior or senior Link Leader as a mentor throughout their first year of high school. Link Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide freshmen to discover a successful transition into high school. All Link Leaders are required to complete 12 hours of training.
