NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus Police Department referred sexual assault charges against a 13-year-old to the Green County District Attorney's Office last week, according to Chief of Police Burt Boldebuck.

The teen was referred Friday for formal charges of third-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct.

A third-degree sexual assault is a Class G felony and involves sexual intercourse without consent. A fourth-degree sexual assault is a Class A misdemeanor and involves sexual contact without consent.

The referral for charges is a result of a weeks-long investigation by the police department into "multiple occurrences dating back to the beginning of December," Boldebuck said.

"There was a whole group of kids we had to interview," he said.

The alleged victims in the case are also 13 years old.

"We're only charging for two victims, but there are more out there," he said.

Juvenile cases in Green County Circuit Court are not public. Assistant District Attorney Laura Kohl handles these cases. Her office declined to comment, confirm the existence of such a case or if she had made a charging decision.
