NEW GLARUS - For Beth Zurbuchen, being the new president and CEO of Swiss Center of North America (SCNA) is in her blood.

"When you explore family names to which I am related, you could fill the phone book of New Glarus or Monroe," Zurbuchen said.

Zurbuchen's grandfather and great-grandparents all emigrated from Switzerland and settled in Green and Dane counties.

Now, the former television news anchor and reporter in La Crosse, Wausau and Madison will do her best to promote Swiss culture. Zurbuchen will begin Monday.

"With her varied professional background, Beth has the skills and experience to lead our organization and develop local, national and international support for the Swiss Center," interim board Chairman Brenda Luckritz said. "We look forward to benefiting from her fresh perspective and passion for achieving organizational success."

The SCNA, open since 1999 in New Glarus, is devoted to celebrating, educating and understanding Swiss heritage and culture.

Programming builds on existing business, cultural and political relationships. The SCNA houses Swiss library collections and promotes Swiss culture. A state-of-the-art electronic network, under development, will link the SCNA to Swiss throughout the world.

"I am excited about advancing the goals of this organization and leading the effort to raise philanthropic funds to tell the Swiss story worldwide," Zurbuchen said.

Zurbuchen has more than 30 years of media and organizational leadership credentials. Most recently, she served as executive director for Ronald McDonald Charities of Madison. She also has extensive experience in corporate, media and community relations and fundraising.
