National Histroric Cheesemaking Center: Cheese Day in 1917

A one-day event in 1917, Cheese Day was held Oct. 10, with Dr. F.L. Hodges as general chairman. Hodges was assisted by other committee chairmen, L.C. White, Ray T. Bast, Frank A. Treat, W.E. Trukenbrod, Henry Hefty, Louis Kohli, Arthur Benkert, Ray Young, Charles Shriner, Robert L. Rote and G. F. Sickinger. Even though the war was on, concessions lined the Square and a fall fair atmosphere prevailed. Pictured with the B.M. Noble Furrier parade float are furrier Ben Noble, seated, and Jim Bennehoff, standing. The furrier tanned hides and furs and was located at 203 S. Jackson St., Monroe.
