The Indiana Condensed Milk, Albany, is pictured in this photo from 1939. The linen mill property was converted to an evaporated milk plant by Fred J. Strong in 1915, operating as Sugar River Canning Company. During the war, Strong sold it to Taylor Wilson and it became known as Indiana Condensed Milk. In 1909, there were 26 condensaries in Wisconsin, increasing to 50 by 1917, mostly in southern Wisconsin. During a three-year period from 1914-1916, 63 cheese factories in Green County alone ceased operation due largely to the construction of new condensaries and the enlarging of older condensaries.
