The French Cheese Company, located in Browntown, was purchased for $3,000 by Fredrick Kolb. Curing rooms were built and cheese production began in 1913, continuing until 1925. Henry Johnson, who was a partner, lived with his wife in the residence above the factory. Their cheese was shipped to Chicago and Milwaukee markets by railway express through the Browntown Depot.
