DARLINGTON - Two Darlington teens already on bond in Lafayette County were arrested Sunday for stealing a car.
Kevin R. Hoffman, 17, and Alejandro Montano, 18, were arrested following a report of a car reported taken at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday from a residence on Clay Street.
Darlington Police Chief Jason King said officers spotted the car at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday on Ohio Street. Hoffman and Montano were arrested following the traffic stop.
King said both Hoffman and Montano drove the car during the night in Lafayette and Grant counties and also committed other acts of theft in Darlington and Platteville.
Hoffman is charged with bail jumping, driving a vehicle without the owner's consent, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a controlled substance and theft.
Montano is charged with driving a vehicle without the owner's consent, carrying a concealed weapon and theft.
Hoffman and Montano were jailed pending court.
Hoffman was arrested at about 12:15 a.m. Sept. 8 while in the process of stealing an all-terrain vehicle from Mike's Engine Works in Darlington. He was released from jail Wednesday on a $5,000 signature bond. He faces more than 16 years in prison and up to $40,000 in fines in that case. His initial appearance was scheduled to resume today.
Montano pleaded no contest in July to possession of a narcotic drug and obstructing an officer. He entered into a deferred prosecution agreement and remained free on a $200 signature bond. Two criminal complaints were also filed against him Thursday for two unrelated counts of theft and entry into a locked vehicle, all class A misdemeanors. He faces more than two years in jail and up to $30,000 in those cases.
