MONROE - Monroe Theatre Guild will hold auditions for its summer production of "Wiley and the Hairy Man" by Susan Zeder at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20 at Monroe Theatre Guild, 910 16th Ave.

"Wiley and the Hairy Man" is a tale of a boy and his worst fears in the swamp, which are eventually overcome by Wiley himself. Set within the mysterious Tombigbee Swamp, "Wiley and the Hairy Man" centers around a young and fatherless boy, his conjurewoman mother, his faithful dog, and the Hairy Man who haunts Wiley's days and dreams. Through rhythm and rhyme, a chorus creates the mystery of the swamp. In an exciting duel of wits, Wiley learns to rely upon his own resources and conquers two villains: the Hairy Man and his own fear.

Director Jennifer Moehn is seeking three men to play Wiley, his dog, and the Hairy Man. A woman is also needed to play Wiley's mother. Four or more extras will be needed to play various creatures within the swamp. The audition is open to the public. The script will be available to check out at the Monroe Public Library starting Tuesday, June 11.

"Wiley and the Hairy Man" performances will take place Saturday, Aug. 24.
