BLANCHARDVILLE - A Blue Mounds man was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a buggy at about 6 p.m. Sunday on County F near the entrance of Yellowstone Lake State Park, according to Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley.

Joseph M. Hendrickson, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lafayette County Deputy Coroner Richard Ruf. Hendrickson was not wearing a helmet.

Preliminary investigation indicates Hendrickson's motorcycle was northbound on County F when it failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle crossed the center line, entered the southbound lane and hit a horse-drawn buggy occupied by 11 people and driven by Eli S. King, 46, Darlington.

King and passengers Nancy King, 44, and Nancy King, 4 months old, also of Darlington, were taken to a Madison hospital for injuries. Eli King, 7, was transported by Med Flight to a Madison hospital for serious injuries. Christopher King, 12, was taken to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County for injuries and later was taken by Med Flight to a Madison hospital. Three other King children sustained injures but didn't require hospital care.

In addition, Jonas Miller, 45, Emma Miller, 44, and Fanny Miller, 1, were taken to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County for non-life-threatening injuries.

The motorcycle received extensive damage.

The buggy also received extensive damage and one of the two horses pulling the buggy had to be destroyed.

This is the fourth fatality in Lafayette County this year, Pedley said.
