BRODHEAD — A rural Argyle man who crashed his car into a utility pole caused a highway closure in the 1400 block of 1st Center Avenue (Wis. 11) in the morning hours of Monday, July 5, 2021. Brodhead Police, Fire and EMS, responded to a report of a car versus utility pole at on 1st Center Ave at 6:14 a.m.

Brodhead Police determined the driver was northbound on 1st Center Ave. The driver was attempting to retrieve their cellphone from the floorboard of the car. In so doing the car traveled left of center and struck a utility pole on the west side of the highway. The pole was broke off near the base, causing the southbound lane of 1st Center Ave. to be closed and a detour set up. The utility pole was replaced by Brodhead Water and Light, and the highway was reopened at 11:15 a.m.

The driver was transported via ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver, a 56 year old rural Argyle man, was cited for inattentive driving.
