MONROE - So this is December?

A warm, albeit sometimes foggy, weekend no doubt left fans of mild winters happy to extend recent spring-like temperatures a little longer: Sunday's high in Monroe was 59 degrees, more than 20 degrees higher than the normal high for Dec. 2, according to Weather Central. The low temperature was 50 degrees, a solid 30 degrees higher than the typical low for that date.

And it's only going to get better today, Dec. 3. Today's forecast calls for a high of 63, with a low of 38, but with showers and thunderstorms. Tuesday should be perfect for anyone still looking to hang some outside Christmas lights - while a slight cool-down is expected, the temperature is still expected to hit a balmy 51 degrees with sunny skies. The low is forecast to dip to 26. (See Page A6 for complete forecast.)

Those who are anxious for some snow to help spur on the holiday spirit may have to just play the waiting game a little longer. Colder weather is expected to move into the area on Wednesday, but the high temperatures will still hover between the mid 30s and 40s through Saturday.

And when will the white stuff arrive? In time for a white Christmas, according the prognosticators at the Old Farmer's Almanac. The venerable publication predicts mild weather through Thursday, Dec. 13, then colder temperatures. Snowy periods are predicted from Monday, Dec. 17 through Christmas Eve, and snow showers and very cold weather between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
