Pictured is the Monticello High School freshman and sophomore domestic science class in 1925. The teacher, Miss Edyth Blum, is seated far right. Monticello girls were taught modern methods of cookery, food preservation and other skills necessary for managing their future homes. The kerosene stove and baking oven were the latest in household conveniences. The oily fumes from these stoves might have added some of the home-cooked flavors that we fondly remember from our grandmothers' dinner tables.
