J. Henry Staedtler's Grist Mill, 1893-1912. His son Henry owned the mill from 1912-1920. He sold it to Ben Disch who held the title from 1920-24. Disch sold it to Harrison Smith in 1924. Smith had the building dismantled and built a two-story brick mill building on the site; it milled grain until 1934 at which time he sold it to Wisconsin Power and Light for Monticello offices. WPL sold the building to the village of Monticello in 1935, and it has since been used as the village hall. The fire department's cast-iron horse-watering trough, in the lower left of the photo, is now in the village park.
