Monticello girls basketball team, 1912-13. Players that have been identified, in no particular order, are Mata Steinmann, Hilda Dick, Selma Babler, Zoe Hancock and Rosa Benkert. The coach is Emil Krause, originally from La Crosse. Ladies of that era used lots of fabric and pleats when making their sport costumes so they would be modest and lady-like at all times. At least some of their games were played in the Grand Central Hotel ballroom.
