Shown is the east side of Monticello's Main Street in January 1910. At this time the Grand Central Hotel, owned by the Wittwer Bros., catered to traveling salesmen arriving from the Illinois Central or Milwaukee Road train stations. Some single school teachers also had permanent lodging and meals here during the school year. Immediately to the hotel's right, in what is today's Total Look business is the Van Norman drug store and the Carroll and Bontly grocery store.
