Monroe sees uptick in general state aid

MONROE - The Monroe school district will receive $16,789,749 in general state aid this year, a 4.14 percent increase from last year's $16,122,317.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction released the numbers for general aid to the state's public school districts Wednesday. Current law provides $4.476 billion for the 424 school districts.

More than half of the districts will get more general state aid this year than they did in 2013-14.

Darlington Community school district's aid increased from last year by 8.51 percent, from $4,884,054 to $5,299,515 - the largest jump for districts in Green and Lafayette counties.

Pecatonica Area schools will receive $2,332,190 this year, a 4.87 percent decrease from $2,451,493 in 2013-14. The decrease is the largest for area districts.

Other area districts:

• Albany will receive $2,430,036 in general aid this year, up from $2,346,745 in 2013-14, a 3.55 percent increase.

• Argyle will receive $2,159,696 in general aid this year, down from $2,166,875 in 2013-14, a .33 percent decrease.

• Black Hawk will receive $2,350,443 in general aid this year, down from $2,356,411 in 2013-14, a .25 percent decrease.

• Brodhead will receive $6,724,555 in general aid this year, down from $6,770,759 in 2013-14, a .68 percent decrease.

• Juda will receive $1,780,175 in general aid this year, up from $1,758,533 in 2013-14, a 1.23 percent increase.

• Monticello will receive $2,197,499 in general aid this year, down from $2,275,778 in 2013-14, a 3.44 percent decrease.

• New Glarus will receive $5,299,375 in general aid this year, up from $5,152,439 in 2013-14, a 2.85 percent increase.

Other forms of financial aid, such as aid for various programs and per pupil categorical aid, are not included in the general state aid.
