MONROE — The School District of Monroe has announced it will use a new visitor management system known as “Raptor ID.” 

The Raptor ID system is a check-in procedure that runs a visitor’s photo ID through a security check prior to the visitor being allowed access into a building during the school day when students are present. The system was funded through a Department of Justice school safety grant awarded to the School District of Monroe in the fall of 2018.

The new visitor management system requires that visitors bring a photo ID to the main office of the school building. Their photo ID will be scanned and run through the national registered sex offender database. Once cleared, the visitor will be issued a visitor photo to be in the building during the school day when students are present. If a prospective visitor forgets their photo ID, they will be allowed to provide their name and date of birth to office staff in order to run a security check. If a security check results in a noted concern, an administrator is contacted immediately and the options to address the concern will be discussed with the individual seeking to visit the school.

Use of the Raptor ID system will begin on March 18 in what is being referred to as an “acclimation period” for visitors, with full implementation of the program scheduled to begin on April 1 immediately following spring break. Several school districts in Wisconsin are the system successfully and the program is one of many initiatives that demonstrates the District’s on-going commitment to student and staff safety.
