MONROE - The Monroe school system's District Improvement Plan, including updates, is available on the district's Web site at www.monroeschools.com/district.cfm?subpage=617706.

The school board met with the district administrative team Monday to review and discuss in detail the district improvement plan. The board also heard individual reports from each building principal describing academic improvement and achievement gains specifically related to each school.

The improvement plan was developed using information from last year's parent focus groups, graduate surveys, along with board and administrative input. It includes five objectives, including improving curriculum; improving instructional practices; continuing implementation of district-wide intervention system; revamping grading practices; and improving instructional leadership.

"Anytime you develop a plan that covers such a wide range of initiatives, you are never quite sure how much progress can be made over the course of a year. Due to the hard work and input from our teachers, administrators, parents and the Board of Education we have been able to make tremendous strides so far this year," Superintendent Larry Brown said. "I am extremely excited about the opportunities many of these changes will bring to our students."
