On Monday, Sept. 28, the Monroe school board:

• Awarded a three-year snow removal and salting bid to Maddrell Excavating of Monroe. Building and Grounds Supervisor Tom Rufenacht said Maddrell did snow removal and salting at district buildings last year, and the district was pleased with the work performed. Maddrell's was the only bid submitted by the district's deadline last week. Last year, the district paid Maddrell $32,500 for snow removal and salting. Rufenacht said Maddrell's bid includes higher hourly charges for equipment this year. For example, a dump truck with plow cost $50 per hour last year and will cost $60 this year, $63 next year and $65 per hour in 2011-12. Rufenacht said despite higher initial increases this year, Maddrell's bid was very reasonable. The final cost of this year's snow removal will depend on the number of snowfalls this year.

• Accepted a donation of $250 from the Salvation Army to Northside Elementary School. The money will be used for school supplies and clothing items for families in need.

• Accepted the resignation of Louise Tindle as tray washer at Parkside Elementary School.
