MONROE - At a meeting Aug. 24, the Monroe school board:
• Hired instructional staff members: Beth Miller, Northside Elementary School, third grade; Sarah Pearcy, Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy, third grade; Alla Diakun, Monroe High School, German; and Colleen Coleman, MHS, science.
• Hired support staff members: Travis Shippy, MHS custodian; Gordon Grunder, MHS custodian; Robert Kohn, Northside custodian; Sherilyn Dietz, MHS custodian; and George Engles, MHS custodian.
• Approved the requests of three students to leave the district and six students to enroll in the district.
• Accepted a five-year contract beginning Tuesday with Advance Disposal, the district's current disposal contractor, for almost $2,000 per month. This will save the district about $1,000 per month compared to its current disposal costs, largely because the new contract includes an agreement to not add increases, administration or environmental fees or fuel charges for the first three years.
