MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the Monroe school board:
Approved the final budget and levy for 2014-15 with adjustments as discussed at the annual meeting on Oct. 20. The general fund deficit is at about $1.03 million with the amended budget, down from about $1.04 million at the annual meeting. The final total levy is $10.91 million, which is a 2.28 percent decrease from last year, and the tax rate is $10.65 per $1,000 of a home's value, a 5.25 percent drop from last year's $11.24. Property values rose by an average of 3.14 percent in the Monroe school district, but the Town of Jordan jumped by 9.38 percent, which will affect the school tax rate in the area, according to Ron Olson, the district's business manager.
Recognized John Ditter, Monroe High School physical education teacher and the district's PEP grant manager, as the winner of the October Lamp of Learning Staff Excellence Award.
Heard the district sold two vehicles on online auction site Wisconsin Surplus. One sold for $5,700 and another for almost $6,000. Four more - two Corollas and two PT Cruisers - are set to be posted to the auction site next week.
Approved minutes from a special closed-session BOE meeting on Oct. 20 in which the board expelled an MHS student for possessing marijuana while on school property and for possessing marijuana with intent to deliver it while on school property. The board voted unanimously for expulsion, except for Amy Bazley, Michael Boehme and Brian Keith who were absent.
Accepted donations: $500 from Green County Cheese Days; $3,000 from Optimist Club, half to go to Northside Elementary for the African Ensemble Grant and half to go to the School-to-Home Grant; $100 from ADK/K. Saunders Grant for the School-to-Home Grant.
