MONROE - At a meeting on May 11, the Monroe school board:

• Approved the Monroe High School FBLA trip to St. Louis, which was from Thursday to Saturday, May 14 to 16. Six students signed up to go with two advisors. The trip included stops at Edward Jones, Saint Louis University, Monsanto, Anheuser Busch, Busch Stadium and the Gateway Arch. Sherri Hendrickson, one of the advisors, said she wanted the board's approval for the trip because of the planned tour of the Anheuser Busch brewery.

"For some of our kids, they may not have another opportunity to see a world-class business in a huge industry to learn about their marketing, to learn about their sales, to learn what they do, how they make their industry different from the craft industry," she said. "So I think it's an opportunity."

The board members agreed it would be a good opportunity for students, and some indicated that the stop at Monsanto might be more controversial than the stop at the brewery.
