On Monday, May 11, the Monroe school board:
Approved a bid from Monroe Heating and Sheet Metal for $17,964 to replace 10 furnaces at Parkside Elementary School. The bid was $64 more than the lowest bid, but was the lowest of local bids submitted. The project was budgeted at $15,000; Building and Grounds Supervisor Tom Rufenacht said savings from the project to replace lockers at Monroe Middle School will be used to cover the difference.
Voted to spend $11,765 to replace the clock system at Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy with a wireless GPS clock system. The system synchronizes all clocks in the building and is cheaper than a wired system, Rufenacht said. A similar system was installed at Monroe High School last year, and at Parkside about six years ago, Rufenacht said. The bid from Primex Wireless was the lowest submitted; the project was budgeted at $18,000.
Decided to spend $9,664 to install drop ceilings at Northside Elementary School.
Accepted a bid for $17,999 from CDWG for a mobile computer lab that will include 25 Hewlett-Packard laptops with two-year warranties and a mobile cart. The lab will be used primarily for the math department. The bid was $50 more than the lowest bid, but the district finance committee recommended the CDWG bid to get the HP brand.
Approved staffing changes for the 2010-11 year. The district will add a full-time math teacher to replace a special education teacher who is resigning. The teacher taught regular education math in addition to special education math. Another full-time Spanish position was added to alleviate overloads in the Spanish program, as well as a .2 business education teaching position.
