MONROE - At a meeting Monday, June 9, the Monroe school board:

• Created a new position of instructional technology integrator to help teachers compose lessons that include the use of technology such as Chromebooks and to provide assistance and training to instructional staff in integrating technology in the classroom, among other responsibilities.

• Approved the Chromebook lease of $208,800 over three years, which reflects a reduction of about $2,000 on the cost of the Chromebooks as reported at the May 12 meeting.

• Revised the tobacco policy for students, staff and community members to include a prohibition of electronic cigarettes and other vapor devices on school grounds or while involved in school-sponsored activities.

• Reassigned positions at Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy, including eliminating one full-time aide position, reducing another to 25 hours per week and adding a full-time intervention specialist position.

• Accepted the resignations of instructional staff members: Elizabeth Lamb, speech/language pathologist at Parkside Elementary School; Brock Linde, English teacher at Monroe High School; Allison Wojta, third-grade teacher at Northside Elementary School; and Elyse Cianfrini, seventh-grade special education teacher at Monroe Middle School.

• Hired new instructional staff members: Julia Genrich, Abe Lincoln art; Mat Anderson, MHS vocal music; Michelle Clarbour, MHS science; Kim Schaaf, MHS technology integrator; Kaitly Allen, Northside second grade; William Latimer, MHS English; Maureen McGuire, MMS special education.

• Approved the retirements of Diane Kubly, Abe Lincoln aide, and Melissa Borke, Northside cafeteria.

• Accepted donations of $100 from Monroe Kiwanis to the Project World Class at MMS; $500 from Monroe Optimist Club to MMS for a sixth-grade field trip; and $8,000 from Antenna Plus LLC to Project Lead the Way at MHS.

• Chose the bid by Voegeli Landscaping to replace concrete walks and drives at all district buildings for almost $56,000 to be taken from the long-term maintenance account.

• Agreed to the bid by Stalker Sports Floors of about $27,000 to refinish MMS and MHS gym floors, to be paid from long-term maintenance.

• Approved the bid by Tyco SimplexGrinnell of about $14,000 to replace fire alarm control panel and addressable fire alarm equipment at Parkside and Abe Lincoln, to be paid from long-term maintenance.

• Hired Holly Storck-Post as the Youth Services Coordinator at the Monroe Public Library.

• Accepted the resignation of Erik Davies from the public library board of trustees.

• Went into closed session.

Dan Bartholf and Amy Bazley were absent.
