MONROE - At a meeting Monday, June 23, the Monroe school board:

• Approved a contracted service agreement with Erin Dyer for the position of speech/language pathologist for the district. The agreement covers the 2014-15 school year and costs $60 per hour for about 900 service hours for a total of about $54,000. Dyer was the only qualified and certified candidate to apply for the position, and she requested the services contract rather than be hired as an employee. According to Joe Monroe, director of pupil services, some other districts have to pay as much as $100 per hour for speech/language pathologists, while others have been unable to fill the position.

• Approved the purchase of 180 Dell machines from Hypertech for a cost of $106,380. The machines will be used for Project Lead the Way and art/business labs.

• Hired new support staff members: Christina Foley, educational assistant at Parkside Elementary School, and William Batz, district maintenance coordinator.

• Hired a new instructional staff member: Kirsten Steinmann, Northside Elementary School fourth grade.

• Accepted the resignation of Brian Jefferson, social studies teacher at Monroe High School.
