On Monday, July 14, the Monroe school board:
Accepted the resignation of Jamie Prahl, art teacher at Monroe Middle School for the 2008-09 school year.
Learned two MMS clubs made donations to the school. The Band Club donated $1,160 to purchase a musical instrument and the Student Council donated $3,370 to purchase a Smart Board and accessories.
Heard the state Department of Public Instruction approved the district's Library Media and Technology plan. Superintendent Larry Brown said the DPI accepted the plan without requesting modifications, which is a rare accomplishment for this type of plan.
Renewed the charter school contract between the school board and the Monroe Virtual High School. The contract is for five years, beginning July 1.
Agreed to use Wisconsin Community Bank as the district's financial institution for the next three years. The board went with the Finance Committee's recommendation after reviewing proposals from both WCB and Amcore Bank. The district previously used Amcore.
Learned the Finance Committee will not recommend the district move ahead with plans to repair the parking lot at Northside Elementary School. The district received two bids for the repair project, ranging from just over $9,000 to almost $10,000. However, the parking lot is slated to be replaced next summer, so repairs will not be made.
Accepted a bid from Monroe Glass for $40,400 to replace windows at the high school. Another bid from Dubuque Glass came in at $46,000. The window replacement project will be completed in two phases, with the first one costing just under $21,000.
Approved the Finance Committee's recommendation to go with a Kerio MailServer package for $14,700 to replace the district's current e-mail and calendar software.
