MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the Monroe school board:

• Determined the order school board candidates will appear on the ballot for the April 7 election by drawing the names randomly. They drew names in the following order: Amy Bazley, Mary Berger, Nicole Saugstad and Bob Erb. There are three open seats on the school board, which will go to the three candidates who gain the most votes. Bazley, Berger and Erb, the current board president, are incumbents.

• Agreed to allow Director of Buildings and Grounds Safety/Security Tom Rufenacht to work with Schrenk Brothers Roofing Inc. of Monroe and Mule-Hide TPO Roofing Systems to develop the roof specifications and to help during the request for proposal process for the roof replacement work on Parkside Elementary. Rufenacht noted that Schrenk, the installers, will compete with other companies for the bid, as will Mule-Hide, the manufacturer. The cost of the roof replacement is already included in the district's long-term maintenance account.

• Agreed to go ahead with Inspec Inc. of Milwaukee to develop the specifications and administer the bid process for replacing the Monroe High School track. Rufenacht said the project will be under a "short timeline" of about two months this summer due to use of the track. The cost of the track replacement is already included in the district's long-term maintenance account.

• Hired new support staff members Debbie Blue, MHS instructional assistant, and Sue Armstrong, Monroe Middle School special education assistant.

• Approved the requests of three students to attend other districts.

• Accepted donations: Hats/mittens/scarves from Colony Brands Bakery and Cheese Operations; $1,500 each from Kiwanis Club and Monroe Optimists to go toward Costa Rican Exchange scholarship; $900 from Colony Brands for MHS Choirs; $3,136 from Monroe Optimists for amplification systems at MMS and MHS; $784 from Kiwanis Club for amplification systems at MMS and MHS; $850 from Monroe Optimists for MMS Washington DC trip scholarship; $1,500 from Monroe Optimists for MHS Fine Arts Festival; $500 from Apostolate to the Handicap for MHS Bands; $1,500 from an anonymous donor for Gifted and Talented scholarships.

• Approved a request by a student to take a class through JEDI Virtual School for the 2014-15 second semester.

• Met in a closed session to discuss student disciplinary issues.
