On Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, the Monroe school board:
Approved purchasing new pole vault padding and equipment for Monroe High School from M-F Athletic of Rhode Island for about $12,000. Existing equipment is more than 20 years old and needs to be replaced. Fundraisers for the track program will cover $5,000 of the cost, with the remainder coming from the athletic/MHS building budget.
Agreed to renew one-year contracts for administrative staff. Superintendent Larry Brown said the contracts cover 11 people. He recommended, and the board agreed, to wait until summer, when more budget information is known, to discuss any potential pay increases for administrators.
Voted to switch its primary food vendor from Sysco to Reinhardt. Finance committee chairman Larry Eakins noted the district has been happy with Sysco, which has been supplying the food service program for 10 years, but Reinhardt's bid will save the district about $6,000 per year. Reinhardt will be issued a one-year contract.
Officially hired Rachel Hamel to fill a new aide position at Parkside Elementary School. Hamel began work there Feb. 8.
