MONROE - At a meeting Nov. 23, the Monroe school board:

• Accepted a donation of $300 from an anonymous donor for the Monroe High School art department.

• Heard introductions by this year's five AFS students. Two of the exchange students are from Norway, one from China, one from Thailand and one from Germany.

• Approved a leave of absence requested by Vickie Whitehead, MHS student services secretary.

• Added a health assistant position at Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy with a cost of about $46,000. Joe Monroe, director of pupil services, said a health assistant is needed to help a student with significant health issues. The district has been paying an outside service to fulfill this duty, but Monroe said the district could save about $20,000 per year by hiring its own health assistant.

• Approved a request for a student to leave the district.

• Purchased a John Deere tractor from Sloan Implement Company for about $34,000 to be paid from the long-term maintenance fund.

• Went into closed session to discuss personnel issues.
